Certifications for Real estate.....

Certifications and education are essential to being a Real Estate Agent, what do you think?

I think it is essential for agent to keep ongoing continuing education.  I don't feel it is essential to have every designation under the sun after your name. Most people have no clue what ABR, GRI, CRS but I think it's great to keep learning and trying to better oneself.

Education is very important.  I don't, personally, put very much weight on certifications.  There are many people with the alphabet soup after their name.  They're basically saying they specialize in all these different areas, but if they "specialize" in multiple areas, what are they actually specialized in?

I agree with Donna on the education -- you can never get too much.  Certifications are a different matter. If they are completed with the perspective on education, then okay.  Otherwise, they usually cost a lot of money - better spent on other aspects of your business.

Certifications and designations are educational. So why not get the education and get a certification/designation in the process? I don't see the cost as being that much different than general courses. Except for those that have anual fees for membership, and in that case you belong to a great network of agents.

If you are looking to only enroll in courses that will help you with your mandatory education, just choose carefully to make sure it counts.

I believe in any and all education. And the best education is real life experience out in the field. Nothing beats it and you don't get MCE credit for it.
